Senator Allan Bird Memorial School has 23 Teacher Units designed to offer comfortable and convenient housing for teaching staff. These units are located within close proximity to the school, allowing teachers easy access to classrooms, school facilities, and community amenities.

Each unit is well-maintained and provides a safe, supportive environment that helps staff focus on their professional responsibilities and personal well-being. They have fully fenced in yards and each unit has security cameras installed that are monitored 24/7. There is also 24/7 Security that helps keep our school and teacher units secure and safe.

The Montreal Lake Cree Nation Education Department is looking for On-call Casual Custodians at the Senator Allan Bird Memorial School. The role of a Casual Custodian is to ensure that all areas of the school are kept clean, sanitary, and well maintained. This includes, but is not limited to, classrooms, offices, entryways, hallways, washrooms, and other school facilities.

GENERAL DUTIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT WILL NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • Performing work according to standard procedures and the building’s operational schedule.

  • Using brooms, mops, and floor equipment to sweep, mop, strip, and wax floors.

  • Setting up and taking down chairs, tables, and equipment in classrooms and the gymnasium.

  • Stocking and maintaining supply rooms.

  • Handling emergency cleaning and upkeep requests.

  • Keeping buildings secure by locking doors after shifts end.

  • Ensuring spaces are properly prepared for the following day.

  • Following safety rules and procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or their designate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Grade 10 level education and experience in a janitorial role.

  • Knowledge of WHMIS/OHS and certification in First Aid/CPR.

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (not required).

  • Knowledge of sanitation principles, standard cleaning practices, operation of cleaning equipment, and safe storage of chemical-based cleaning agents.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision using sound judgement and decision-making skills.

  • Must be reliable, punctual, and possess strong organizational, interpersonal communication, and time management skills.

  • Ability to recognize the importance of workplace safety, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

  • Ability to work in chaotic situations while maintaining positive relationships with education staff, leadership, Elders, parents, and community members.

  • Ability to perform heavy work as required (exerting up to 100 lbs occasionally, up to 50 lbs frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs constantly to lift and/or move objects).

The Montreal Lake Cree Nation Education Department is now accepting applications to fill the position of School Security (Casual) at the Senator Allan Bird Memorial School. The role of School Security is to prevent theft and crime during and after school hours and to protect the general welfare of students, faculty, and staff. The primary duty of a School Security Officer is to secure S.A.B.M.S and Teacher Units.

GENERAL DUTIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT WILL NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • Patrolling school grounds and surrounding areas, including unsupervised areas.

  • Intervening in activities that may result in injury and encouraging students not to participate in unsafe conduct.

  • Serving as a role model for students in behavior, attire, and professional grooming.

  • Assisting with supervision during student arrival, dismissal, and breakfast and lunch periods.

  • Helping students arrive to class on time and ensuring smooth traffic flow in hallways.

  • Intercepting visitors, checking for proper identification, and escorting unauthorized individuals to exits.

  • Notifying police and emergency personnel in emergency or unusual situations.

  • Reporting evidence of substance abuse, medical emergencies, child abuse, potential suicide, or alcohol abuse to appropriate personnel.

  • Assisting police, fire personnel, and other emergency crews as required.

  • Ability to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods in all weather conditions, day or night.

  • Maintaining excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or their designate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Saskatchewan Security Guard Certification/License or completion of the 40-hour provincial security guard course (considered an asset but not required).

  • Valid Driver’s License (not required).

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: To Commence with Education & Experience

ROLE: Reports to Direct Supervisor Principal or designate, the Lunch Cook & Assistant are responsible for planning, preparing, and serving healthy and nutritious meals to students and staff in a safe, clean, and welcoming school kitchen environment.

GENERAL DUTIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT WILL NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • Develop weekly or monthly menus in consultation with school leadership and/or a nutritionist.

  • Ensure variety and cultural inclusion in meal offerings.

  • Maintain portion control and reduce food waste.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment at all times.

  • Follow all food safety regulations and health codes (e.g., proper food handling, storage, temperature control).

  • Track food and kitchen supply inventory and place orders in a timely, cost-effective manner.

  • Receive and inspect deliveries to ensure quality and accuracy.

  • Store food and supplies according to food safety standards.

  • Coordinate with school staff regarding meal schedules, special events, or classroom needs.

  • Prepare food for school events, cultural days, or community feasts when required.

  • Prepare meals for Education Committee meetings.

  • Other Duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or related Experience/Food Handling Certification.
  • Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license. (Recommended)
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Experience in planning, scheduling and Food-delivery orders.
  • Must be able to problem solve and to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to groups & individuals, supervisors, employees & the general public.
  • Hours of work are 6:00am – 1:30pm.
  • Heavy lifting of 50 lbs or more.

School Maintenance Worker

LOCATION: Senator Allan Bird Memorial School

LENGTH: Full-Time

ROLE: Reporting to the Principal or designate, this position is responsible for the scheduled and unscheduled repair, maintenance and minor construction of interior and exterior of the school owned by the Senator Allan Bird Memorial School.

DUTIES:

  • Responsible for competing general maintenance and repairs required for the school and teacher units from time to time. Cost estimating for repairs to also be completed.
  • Follow up with Maintenance Requests and complete work orders.
  • Responsible for any structural repairs, roofing, windows, doors, etc
  • Responsible for snow removal, grass cutting and minor electrical repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Regular on-site working hours/Must be able to respond to Emergency requests after-hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be trainable to run the School Boiler System
  • OHS/WHMIS training
  • Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license (Preferred)
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Experience in planning, scheduling and implementing work programs.
